Grading will start in

on the 3 February

Welcome to our Brand New Grading Program

The objective of the information in this page is to provide a clear breakdown of the process for all families at Kincumber Roos FC, to assist with expectations and to quell uncertainty. We understand that the grading process can be confusing and stressful for families, which is why we hope that these details will provide some assurances going into the 2026 season.

Process Goal

Process Goal

We know that more than 60% of the players at our club want to play with their friends, so we have built a complete process around that. As the second largest club on the Central Coast, we have a responsibility to the football community to ensure that we:

  1. Protect the integrity of our A graded teams.
  2. Protect the integrity of all competitions – by avoiding (within reason)
    • Placing A graded players in grades C or D
    • Avoiding the placement of an entire A or B graded teams into C or D grade competitions.
  3. Ensuring that ALL CCF players grow, develop and most importantly, have fun!

Grades Assessors

The KRFC Football Committee will appoint a minimum of 3 members to collate and finalise the teams for 2026 with the supervision of the KRFC Football Chairman.

To protect the integrity of this process none of the members finalising the teams can be coaches or managers of any of our A graded teams.

Subsequently, all teams will be approved by the Executive committee prior to trial game arrangements being made.

Attending Grading

Attending Grading

Please note that grading applies to Age Groups from U8 to U16 only.

  • All players wishing to be graded and assessed MUST complete the Grading Application Form (linked below) at least 1 week prior to scheduled grading.
  • If a player is unable to attend grading, they must provide their Age Group Coordinator a reason for not attending.
  • In the case where a player does not attend grading, their previous grades from last season and results from their performance in this season's trial games (if attended), will be used to assess the appropriate grade for the player. Trial Games are currently scheduled to take place in March.

If you are planning to attend grading, scroll down to the grading info section.

Staying in the Same Team

Staying in the Same Team

Grades C, D and Girls B

If a player was in a grade C or D team from last season, and is happy to play in the same grade, then they don't need to attend grading.

This does NOT apply to:

  • U8 (Mixed and Girls)
  • U11 Girls

The above Age Groups are required to be graded as they are considered as critical ages.

Any C, D or Girls B teams from last season wanting to stay together and play the same grade this season, will need their coach, manager or parent/volunteer to submit a Team Nomination Form (linked below).

Scroll down to the Team Nomination section to submit your team nomination.

Grading Approach

U8 Age Group

Mixed

The U8 season is set in three levels, A (Whales), B (Jellyfish) & C (Octopus).

As this is a critical age, it is vital that all players grade, so we can document a pathway and give the right opportunities to young players.

Girls

CCF does not grade this age group for girls only teams.

As this is a critical age, it is vital that all players grade, so we can document a pathway and give the right opportunities to young players.

U9 Age Group

Mixed

The U9 season is split into 4 player groups, A, B, C & D.

All players wishing to play in either A or B levels are required to attend grading. Any other player who would like to have their grade reassessed from the previous season is also welcome to attend.

Any new player to the club should be encouraged to attend grading if not joining a formed team. Girls also wishing to play mixed in the A/B grades are required to participate in the grading.

Girls

CCF does not grade this age group for girls only teams.

Formed teams from U8 Girl’s teams can complete Team Nominations prior to grading which will go to the Age Co-ordinator, or each player can come along to Muster Days and be placed into a team.

U10 Age Group

Mixed

The U10 season is split into 4 player groups, A, B, C & D.

Players will also experience a significant increase in team and field size.

Goal Keeper Guidelines

Goal Keeper Trials

Policy Guidelines

Under 10 will be where these trials are introduced, however:

  • Players are not permitted to play more than 50% of the season in goals unless agreed between the Player/Parents and the Football Chairman, and players grading for A Grade GK must still participate in outfield grading at the same level.
  • This also aligns with the KRFC GK Academy starting age.

Under 11:

  • Players are not permitted to play more than 75% of the season in goals unless agreed between the Player/Parents and the Football Chairman, and players grading for A Grade GK must still participate in outfield grading at the same level.

Under 12-16:

  • Players are permitted to be dedicated goalkeepers in these competitions; we also encourage players to trial if they would like to be backup goalkeepers for their respective teams/grades.
Expected Attendance

Expected Group Sizes and Planning

Note – The following is a simple planning model given player numbers from the previous season and including some CCF changes. Actual planning is still reliant on grading registrations closer to the schedule start.

Below is a guide only and may not be the actual group sizes on the day:

  • Under 8s – 100 players (boys and girls) will be expected:
    • We will still maintain the 20 per group maximum with two graders per group (observing 10 players each) over two sessions. This will ensure all players are graded over two sessions effectively.
    • When we have received all u8 player lists for those coming to grading, we will assign a timeslot per player. Initially u8s parents will be advised on when the grading will be conducted, and the two time slots with a note that they will be advised within 2 days of the session what timeslot their child is in (trying our best to keep this as close to the teams they had in the previous year).
  • Under 9s to 12s – 60-70 players (boys and girls) will be expected for each age group. Plan for 5x groups of 14 (2 graders per group).
  • Under 13s – 40 players (boys and girls) will be expected. 4x groups of 10.
    • This is a special group given that we are expecting majority of the u12s jnr women from 2025 to be trying out for this age group with the new competition being announced.
  • Under 14s to 16s – Approximately 140 players will be expected:
    • We had a significant number of u14s jnr women’s teams in 2025, some will be remaining in that age group, and some will be going to u16s (there is no u15 women’s comp).
    • We should treat this group like the u8s given its size; however, we will need to wait for expressions of interest and/or team nominations to determine.
    • We will plan within the schedule for a few varying timeslots to accommodate fluctuating numbers.
  • We can adequately cover all expected players with 8 graders, grading roughly 10-20 players each per group. Two session facilitators should suffice as well.
  • On the day, the grader sheets will be filled with player names (randomised as players upon sign in) with spaces for new players and any other anomalies.
Delivery Checklist

Grading Delivery & Checklist

Grading will be conducted over one session for Under 8s and two sessions for Under 9-16s and will consist of a series of simple and fun drills complemented with mini game (split depending on numbers) at the end. The drills will be applied to all age groups and will be as follows:

Session Plan:

  • Drill 1 (5mins – also works as a warmup): in-the-box dribbling. Each player has a ball and is to dribble around in the box avoid the other players. During this drill, the lead grader will give instructions:
    • Left foot only.
    • Right foot only.
    • Toe taps.
    • Tik-Taks.
    • Turns on command.
    • What does this test achieve?
This tests ball control with both strong and weak feet, as well as the players ability to scan the area for obstacles. This simulates an actual game environment rather than a straight line of cones to move in and out of.
  • Drill 2 (35mins): 1v1/2v2/3v3 with overloads. Players run around the small goals twice then challenge for the ball, increasing team sizes (max 3v3). Rotate through once 1v1, then bring in 2v2 for one rotation, then 3v3.
    • Depending on performance/comfort of players, facilitators should bring in overloads occasionally i.e. 1v2, 2v4, etc to shake things up where needed.
    • Safety note – facilitator places the ball in the middle before each challenge. A set a rule that, the first player to the ball cannot attack until the second player is set to defend their goal.
    • What does this test achieve?
This tests the awareness, speed and coordination of players, including adding a little element of competition. The benefits of small challenge games is that players get equal opportunity to demonstrate their skills as well as keeping it relevant to game situations.

End Game (20mins):
Enough rules! Jump to a game with no restrictions and normal goals.

  • All nominated teams must be open to additional players being added once registrations are closed.
  • Formed teams cannot nominate an A/B graded team. With the following exceptions:
    • C graded teams from the previous season can nominate to be moved up to B grade, this will be assessed based on success from the previous season. And dependant on the trial game results.
    • For under 11s going into under 12s - team nominations from C-B grade will be accepted and assessment will be based on home game performance reports/results.
    • Under 12-16 C graded teams from the previous season can nominate to be moved up to B grade provided they finished in a finals position
    • All these types of nominations are also dependent on CCF approval.
  • Any team who won their grade the year prior (excluding U12s) may be required to go up a grade.
  • For those teams who self-nominate Muster Day and Trial games will be planned to get an idea of team ability to determine what competition level each team will be placed in.
  • We request that Coaches & Managers contact the parents and/or guardians of all players prior to nominating the team, as a team will only be confirmed once the Age Coordinator and Football Chairman have contacted each player and confirmed that they are satisfied with their placement.
    • If you can provide evidence of all players agreements at the time of the EOI, that will speed up the process.
    • It is also recommended that you have the Parents of the players note the coach they want to have in the comments section when registering their children.
    • Circumstances may require the club to make minor adjustments. This may include moving players between teams or adding additional players to an existing team. If a team is unwilling to accept these potential changes, their EOI will not be accepted. This policy ensures that all teams remain competitive and that every player receives fair and equitable playing time.
